Steak is such a treat & so why not do it well? Try this delectable red wine, thyme, shallot reduction..simple, delicious & full of flavour. Restaurant quality cuisine at its best!
Red wine is contains several antioxidants which may be involved in preventing heart disease & certain cancers. I’ll raise a glass of wine to that!
Thyme contains oils which are antibacterial & may be important in good cognitive function (through affecting how signals work in the brain). Clever stuff eh!
Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10-15 mins depending on how well done you like your steak
1 tbsp coconut oil
300ml red wine
3 -4 sprigs of fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
1.5 tbsp redcurrant jelly
2 tsbp wholegrain mustard
Salt & pepper
Gently fry shallots for about 2 minutes in melted coconut oil. Add red wine and thyme. Reduce by two-thirds before adding in redcurrant jelly, wholegrain mustard. Season.
Serving suggestion: delicious with cauliflower mash or butterbean mash & steamed vegetables.
To add an extra nutrient boost, sprinkle ground flaxseeds on top.
