Pucker up! Lip balms are amongst the easiest body care gifts to make. You can make a small batch in under 10 minutes! You can make lip balms with no nasty chemicals & only natural ingredients. By mixing Natural beeswax with oils like vitamin E, argan oil, coconut oil, shea & cocoa butter, you can create an extra nourishing hydrating balm. No more dry crackly alligator lips!
I like the cute little 15ml metal lip balm pots available on-line, which make a stylish & compact addition to your handbag or pocket.
The basic lip balm recipe is the always same. Natural beeswax helps to moisturise, soften & protect lips making it a great base. I use organic beeswax.
Adding essential oils can be tailored to your scent preference or to target particular issues, e.g I find mint & tea-tree very refreshing & soothing plus the tea-tree is also helps prevent & promote recovery from cold sores!
Just melt together natural (untinted) beeswax, cocoa or shea butter (or both!), sweet almond oil. Addition of Vitamin E oil, argan oil & coconut oil are optional. Vitamin E is a fabulous anti-oxidant so helps protect against UV skin damage, argan oil is full of omega fatty acids so is a great nourisher & coconut oil helps keep lips hydrated & moisturised without being greasy.
Once melted, add the essential oils of choice (& beetroot powder if using). Mix & pour into little containers. Wait until they have cooled & set before labelling up. Easy!
For those wanting tinted lip balms, you can add natural beetroot powder to give a plum hue.
Don’t forget you can find my favourite recipes in my FREE eBook here.
Here are my favourite combinations:
Mint Lip Balm
Just add pure peppermint oil & tree-tree oil. Soothing, cooling, refreshing & a cold sore guardian!
Orange & sandalwood
Just add pure orange oil (which is uplifting & detoxifying) & sandalwood ( I just love the woody scent!) oil.
Gin & Tonic Lip Balm
Just add bergamot oil, lemon oil, lime oil & juniper berry oil.
These make lovely presents (e.g. stocking fillers, wedding favours & a simple but fun hen party activity).
