Simply delicicious!
This smoothie bowl tastes as good as it looks! It is easy to make & in my humble opinion, looks so pretty. Definitely one to impress! It looks like you have spent ages making it, when in reality it only takes about 5 mins (the longest bit being rinsing out the blender in between making 2 smoothie mixes!).
I have used coconut water in this recipe. If you prefer, you can always use non-dairy milk (almond milk works well) or regular cow milk.
To make this smoothie bowl nutrient dense, I have added not just one, but TWO superfood powders; maca root & lucuma. If you don’t have these at hand, you do not have to add them; the smoothie bowl still tastes delicious.
So what are these superfoods?
Maca root? This is also known as Peruvian Ginseng. It is an ancient Incan superfood crammed with essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids & phytonutrients, making it a nutritional powerhouse with loads of benefits:
It helps increases the body’s resistance to the damaging effects of stress & disease. It helps to regulate, support & balance hormonal systems & so is good to balance mood (including stress, anxiety & depression, menstrual issues) & to boost energy levels. It is reputed to good for sexual health, improving libido & fertility in both men & women. It also helps give you radiant glowing skin.
Lucuma? Lucuma is a nutrient dense fruit which grows at high altitudes, also eaten by the Peruvians. The fruit is deep orange yellow like mango flesh & it tastes sweet like a combination of mango & apricot. Indeed, many use it as a natural sweetener which does not cause a spike in blood sugar levels.
Lucuma is high in beta-carotene (indicated by it’s deep yellow-orange colour) & so an excellent source of the anti-oxidant vitamin A. This is important for a healthy immune system & to fight diseases, but also important for good eyesight & cell growth.
It is also is rich in iron, so important for the circulatory system & energy levels. It is a vegetarian source rich in niacin (vitamin B3), required for good digestion, muscle development & regulation of stress & sex hormones. It is also rich in fibre & so important for digestive function & making you feel fuller for longer.
So, back to business…
